I went back to Joomla administration and went the install/uninstall route and went back to the zip file and tried to install through the browser.

In Joomla admin I find 'Slideshow' in the modules manager window, but the software does not show up in the components tab. Copied the uncompressed files to their respective folders: com_fpss-v2.0.0_j1.5 went to components folder in Joomla and mod_fpss-v2.0.0_j1.5 went to modules folder.
